Tour de DOEL raises money for The DOEL Foundation
The Tour de DOEL charity event saw 23 teams from 11 of DOEL’ global offices come together to raise money for The DOEL Foundation in September 2021.
Each 10-person team competed in a three-hour endurance cycle on static bikes, with members able to rotate on and off to ensure fresh legs and energetic sprints to clock up the highest number of kilometres. All global teams competed at the same time. With a live stream through a virtual route as well as a live leaderboard feed, wherever people were in the world, they could tune in to view the action.
At the end of 2020, DOEL set up and launched The DOEL Foundation, providing an opportunity for DOEL as a collective to do more for the causes it is passionate about. The DOEL Foundation, with its charitable status, ensures our giving can go further to create meaningful and lasting change around the world.
Over the past 12 months, The DOEL Foundation has supported a range of good causes, including:
- The Wave Project - a Belfast-based charity that provides surf therapy for young children
- StreetChild - providing education to children in one of Liberia's most remote communities
- Greyhope Bay - a charity that focuses on marine heritage preservation in Aberdeen.
Event organiser and The DOEL Foundation Trustee, Lily Bagshaw, commented:
"DOEL' people have always been generous and charitable. Whether it’s getting sweaty in this years' Charity Giving Day cycling event or channelling our expertise, experience and time into charitable projects, the important thing is that a tangible difference can be felt by the charities we support. This is the first year that we are raising money for The DOEL Foundation, and we want to set the bar high so that we can achieve genuine and positive change."
